Crabs kidnap the monkeys of the children’s howl in a strange and deadly direction

Capuchin may be a young man named Joker is the first major influence in the world. But the direction he started – children who belong to a separate type disappear – had fatal consequences.

Joker is one of the many white face cabins who live on Jicarón Island off the coast of Panama. The researchers used the cameras to monitor the behavior of these monkeys with round heads when, in 2022, drew the attention of Zoë GoldBorough, a doctoral researcher at the Max Planck Institute and a researcher at the Smithsonian Institute for Tropical Research in Panama.

It was tested through camera lollipops when she spotted Capuchin male carrying a child’s monkey on his back. This was already an extraordinary scene – females are almost always that carry young people. But when accurate inspection, it became strange.

“I quickly saw that the coloring was completely wrong,” Goldsburo told Gizmodo. “Capuchin monkeys have a dark fur and a light face, and this (the child) was lighter and a dark face.”

She explained that the only other monkeys on the island are the monkeys of howl, and the coloring of this infant matches this type. “So it was clear that it could only be a howl monkey, but this has no meaning at all.”

This view inspired Goldsburo to the sea through tens of thousands of photos taken by all the cameras that were published in the same time period, according to statement From the Max Planck Institute. I found four different cases of the same cable, a male appointed by Joker, carrying the child’s monkeys.

“With everything we found, we had more answers, but also more questions,” Goldsburo said.

Initially, she and her colleagues believed that this behavior could be a form of adoption – when an animal assumes the role of parents of another kind. It is relatively common among the main women, but it is being implemented almost exclusively by females who are supposed to do so for youth care, according to the Max Planck Institute. So what was motivating Joker – a man – to kidnap these children?

Before Goldsburo and her colleagues can start answering this question, new arose. Discover the video and pictures of four other males who hold the howl of children, five months after Joker began doing this. They were copying it-it was a real issue of “See Monkey, Monkey Do”.

Researchers study, Published Monday in the current journal Biology, details of how Joker put the trend and his four followers carried 11 different clouds over a period of 15 months. Children clung to their backs or stomachs while cabosheen worked in their work, sticking to each other for up to nine days at a time.

Aside from some accidental discomfort when he tried to infant and failed in his nurse, Goldsburo said that the Kabuchis was cute with their strange passengers – especially. She said: “It seems that he is really interested in the presence of these infants and carrying them for long periods of time.”

But since these males were unable to produce milk, infants were not good with their adopted fathers. The researchers saw four children died from the apparent malnutrition, and they are suspected of others. In three cases, the Kabuchin continued to carry their baby dead for at least a day after passing it.

Based on their findings, the researchers decided that this was a case of kidnappings between species, not adoption. It was not clear after that the reason for capturing the two ravages is this trend, as it is rare for the young leaders to kidnap young from other types, but it is not uncommon for the individual’s behavior to spread to other members of the population through social learning.

The reason that Joker started behavior in the first place, Goldsburo says there are some possible motives. She explained that his gentle reactions significantly with the comic children indicate that he may have had a kind of motivation behind the care. “I think it could be something a little strange about it, or it was somewhat alone,” she said.

To reach the root of his behavior, Goldsburo wants to learn more about his social status. She said that determining whether Joker is a leader or one who can provide more ideas on how social learning is manifested in major groups.
