Have you refused to promote “make it look very easy”?

The Reddit Viral function sparked anger and debate about fairness in the workplace after an employee revealed his deprivation of promotion, not for weakness, but because he is “very effective.” The post, titled “I got a refusal to promote because” I made it very easy, “has hit a nerve online, especially with those who feel ignored even though we are constantly overcoming us.

The Reddit user explained that they spent four years in his current role in examining documents, managing databases, helping the public find records, and often training new employees and assisting their manager even when the systems fail.

When a role was opened to provide more wages and independence, they advanced, confident in seniority and qualifications. They wrote: “I was easily a qualified person. I have trained the last two new appointments, and I am the person they call when the system disrupts,” they wrote.

For them, the job went to a young employee with only six months of experience, someone was directing. When Redditor faced his manager, the interpretation was angry: “You are so effective in your current turn that we are facing to replace him. You make him look very easy.”

The employee’s response has since become viral: “Therefore, because I am good in my job, I am not allowed to grow … It turns out that the reward for efficiency is invisible.”

The post sparked a flow of similar stories and support from his colleagues. One of the users commented, “This is the classic punishment for the trap of competence. There was your plan. Do exactly what is required, nothing is additional, and certainly does not answer her questions anymore.”

Another added, “If they do not think you are eligible for this role, they should not expect you to continue doing the work that comes with him. It is not trivial, it sets limits.”

A third user shared a similar experience, “This happened to my husband – he was transferred to a less qualified person because they were unable to lose him from his position. When the administration does so, they suppose people remain forever. Instead, they are shocked when people completely leave the organization.
