Nineteen people were wounded, and four remained serious after a long Mexican training ship collided with the Navy in the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City.
Footage appeared showing tall mawaria from Cuuhtémoc bridge clips while the sailing ship was passing under the famous structure on Saturday evening.
According to what was reported, parts of the masts fell on the deck, as the American media reported multiple injuries, as the crew members were standing on the mast at the time of collision.
The Emergency Department of New York City (NYCEM) said it “responds to an accident”, without giving any other details. The mayor of New York said that the Brooklyn Bridge had not suffered any harm
The Mexican Navy confirmed that the ship was damaged, saying that the accident was being investigated.
The crowds who were watching the ship’s path escaped from the edge of the water, where the mast collided with the bridge.
The Fire Department in New York City confirmed that the authorities were responding to injuries, according to CBS reports, the American BBC partner.
The administration said it has no details about the number of people who may have been injured or whether they are on the ship or on the bridge.
In a statement issued by X, NYCEM said, “The situation is developing and the details have not been confirmed at this time.”
CBS reported that the New York mayor Eric Adams was at the scene and was briefed on the situation.
NYPD requested the population to avoid the Brooklyn Bridge, South Street SEAPORT in Manhattan, and Dumbo in Brooklyn.
Police said on X.
Media reports say Cuuhtémoc had more than 200 crews on board.
