Salman Rushdie’s striker was sentenced to 25 years in prison

A man from a New Jersey was sentenced to a partial stabbing and a partial novelist, Sir Salman Rushdie, at a lecture stage in New York, to 25 years in prison on Friday.

Hadi Mattar, 27, was convicted of trying to kill and attack earlier this year.

Sir Salman on stage was talking to the audience in August 2022, when he stabbed several times on the face and neck. The attack left him blind in one eye, damage to his liver and paralyzed hand due to nerve damage to his arm.

The attack came 35 years after Sir Salman’s controversial novel, the demonic verses, which have long made him a target of death threats to photograph the Prophet Muhammad.

Mattar received the maximum of 25 years to try to kill Sir Salman.

He was also convicted of assaulting the wound, the person who was in an interview with Sir Salman and Henry Reese and was sentenced to seven years in addition to three years after the issuance for this attack.

Jason Schmidt, the lawyer for the Chutawukua Province, said on Friday that the camel should be managed simultaneously because both victims were injured in the same event.

Before he was sentenced to him, Mattar stood up and indicated a statement about the freedom of expression in which Rushdie was described as a hypocrite, according to Associated Press.

“Salman Rushdie wants not to respect others,” said Mattar, wearing the planned white prison clothes and wearing handcuffs. “He wants to be bullied, and he wants to be bullying by others. I don’t agree however.”

Sir Salman was not in court because of his ruling on the aggressor on Friday.

Mattar was convicted of trying to kill and attack in February 2025, after an intense trial during which he detailed Sir Salman at the moment he felt triumphant that he would die.

During the two -week trial, he witnessed that he saw a man rushing towards him while he was on the stage at the Institute of Historic Arts in Chutawukua, New York.

He said that the attacker’s eyes “were dark and seemed very fierce.”

Sir Salman told the court that he initially did not realize that he was stabbed, and instead he was thinking that he had a punch.

Mattar Sir Salman stabbed 15 times in total, including cheek, chest, eye, neck and thigh.

Prosecutors argued that the attack was targeted.

“There were many people that day, but only one person was targeted,” said lawyer Jason Schmidt, lawyer Jason Schmidt.

Defense lawyer Andrew Brautjan has argued that the prosecutors who failed to prove that Mattar intends to kill Sir Salman.

Mattar, who admitted that he was not guilty, did not witness his defense. His lawyers did not call any of their own witnesses.

“I don’t think he is a very good person,” said Mattar of the author in the New York Post 2022. “He is a person who attacked Islam.”

Mattar praised the supreme leader of Iran, Ayatollah Khomeini, for his call to execute Sir Salman.

The attack took place about 35 years after the controversial publication of Sir Salman.

The narration, inspired by the life of the Muslim Prophet Muhammad, has angered among some Muslims, who considered its content blasphemy.

Sir Salman faced countless death threats and was forced to hide for a period of nine years after Iran’s religious leader Fatdeh – or a decree – called for the author’s death due to the book.

But in recent years, the author said he believed the threats against him had shrunk.

Before the attack, Sir Salman told a German magazine that he felt that his life was “relatively normal”.

The British Indian novelist later detailed his experience and a long way to recover in notes called KNIFE: Reflections after the attempt to kill.
