More than 100 dead after flooding in the eastern Congo, Dr., officials say Flood news

Heavy floods were washed overnight, many villages in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, killing more than 100 people, according to local officials, in a nation that suffers from war and mass displacement.

Bernard Akili, a regional official, told Agence France Presse on Saturday that these floods caused heavy rains and rose through the village of Kasaba, in southern Kivu province, during Thursday night to Friday.

He said: “The victims who died are mainly children and the elderly,” adding that 28 people were injured and that about 150 homes were destroyed.

The Minister of Health in South Kevo, Theovili and Lulka Mozalio, told Associated Press that rescue operations were hindered by the lack of services and the closure of phone lines due to floods.

He said: “The heads of the sectors, heads of village and heads of web, who are also members of the local government are located on the site. The only humanitarian organization currently present is the Red Cross.”

A local population told Agence France -Presse that about 119 bodies were found by Saturday.
