80 years ago, on May 8, 1945, Nazi Germany surrendered, which led to the end of World War II in Europe. Although a large part of France is no longer busy, there are still “pockets” of German resistance in many northern cities. Dunkirk, known as the wonderful evacuation site of the British and French forces in the spring of 1940, was one of them. In the rubble, the town was liberated the day after surrender, and German soldiers were ordered to stick to the end.
