Sotheby after the Buddha Feeling auction after India threatens legal procedures

Sotheby’s auction house has postponed his sale in Hong Kong for hundreds of sacred jewelry associated with the remains of Buddha, after threatening legal action by the Indian government.

The sale of the group – described as one of the most amazing archaeological discoveries of the modern era – has attracted criticism from Buddhist academics and monastic leaders. India said it has offended the global Buddhist society.

Sotheby said that the comment would allow discussions between the two parties.

A British official named William Klaston Bibi discovered antiquities in northern India about 130 years ago, along with bone fragments that have been identified as belonging to Buddha himself.

The group auction, known as the Berahaua Stones of the historic Morean Empire, Ashokan, was scheduled to happen around 240-200 BC, on May 7.

In a letter to the auction house two days ago, the Indian government said that the effects constitute “religious and cultural heritage that is not active in India and the global Buddhist community. Selling them violates Indian and international laws, as well as United Nations agreements.”

Then a high -level Indian government delegation held discussions with Sotheby’s representatives on Tuesday.

In an e -mail statement, Sotheby said that in light of the matters raised by the government of India, “and with the agreement of the messengers, the auction was postponed …”

She said that the updates about the discussions will be shared “as necessary.”

The sale of GEMS was removed from the auction house by Wednesday, and the auction site page is no longer available.

William Klaston Bibi, English real estate director, was stroke in Parawa, south of Lombini, Buddha’s birthplace. He revealed the effects of engraved and dedicated for nearly 2000 years.

The results included approximately 1,800 gemstones, including rubies, tubaz, sapphire and carved golden panels, stored inside a brick room. This site is now in the state of Uttar Pradesh.

Sotheby said in February that the discovery of 1898 was “among the most unusual archaeological discoveries ever.”
