The agency said that Xi “stressed the importance of strengthening safety measures in tourist attractions” and other large public places.

He also pointed to a series of modern deadly incidents throughout the country.

The Wu River, which passes through the mountainous interior in Guizhou, is a famous destination for local tourists, especially during holidays.
