The area where Elon Musk’s Spacex operates on the southern end of Texas will formally become a city called Starbase.
The residents agreed to integrate a group of lands as a new municipality into the elections on Saturday.
Most qualified voters 283 are Spacex employees. The results I published online by Cameron Province of 212 votes in exchange for six oppositions. MUSK Billionaires wrote “Starbase, Texas is now a real city!” On its social media platform X.
The new city covers about 1.6 square miles (3.9 square kilometers), which was populated before Spacex started buying lands in the region in 2012.
The city government will consist of a mayor and commissioners who will obtain power to plan, taxes and other local issues. However, some of the nearby population opposed this measure and accused the company of harming the local environment.
Since Spacex began to buy land in the region, housing facilities and Spacex originated, and Mr. Musk has residence. Other evidence of the presence of a pole includes a road called Memes Street and a giant of the same pharaoh, which was sabotaged recently.
About 500 people can live nearly.
It was common that the possibility of establishing as a city for years before the petition in December 2024 paved the way to vote on Saturday.
The first mayor of Starbase will be Bobby Bidin, Vice President of Spacex. Peden ran without opposition, as two other residents did with Spacex links who will fill two delegated seats.
BBC called Mr. Peden to comment.
Starbase will be a C -C -Category of Municipality less than 5,000 people and a designation that allows among other things to officials to impose a real estate tax of up to 1.5 %, according to the Texas Municipal Association.
The draft law, which currently extends through the Texas Legislative Authority, can be granted the ability to close a local highway and limit access to Boca Chika Beach and the Boca Chika Governmental Park during the launch of the missiles and other company’s activity.
SPACEX closure is being managed around SpaceX launch operations currently by Cameron County, which includes the nearby city of Bronzville and the city of South Padri.

The result of voting can create crawls between provincial officials and Starbase about access to Boca Chica Beach where Spacex is looking to increase the number of launch operations on its location in Texas from five to 25 years.
The Supreme Officer of Cameron County, Judge Eddino Junior, opposes the state law that will allow Starbase control of the closure.
In recent years, Musk has transferred many of its operations and the company’s headquarters from California to Texas, noting that it is more appropriate and opposed to the policy dominated by the Democratic Party in California.
The headquarters of its companies X and Poring is now on the outskirts of Bastrop, which is a small city near the capital of the state Austin and about five and a half hours by car to the north of Starbase.
Unlike Starbase, the development outside Austin does not include many new housing for the company’s workers – most of them live in Pastep or other surrounding societies.
Environmental groups have criticized the effect of SpaceX on the near wildlife, and says that the company has increased light pollution and the region was scattered with debris from missile launch.
In 2024, the company was fined approximately $ 150,000 (113,000 pounds) by the American Environmental Protection Agency and the Texas Environment Committee to throw wastewater.
The company described fines as a result of “differences on papers” and maintaining them followed environmental laws. The BBC is close to Spacex to comment.
