He said that India will be placed positively in such China in addition to one scenario, adding that more manufacturing investments may also occur with other local reforms.

“Even in manufacturing, we may then see a little better progress. If this begins in accumulation, some of the distinct reforms that were tougher, any pressure on these reforms will grow, and then we may start to occur in these reforms, especially with regard to labor markets and land markets,” he said.

Panagariya also stressed the importance of free trade and said that the role of trade is very important. India has a lot of opportunities in the global economy with a 2 % stake in goods and 4 % in the service sector. He said: “The opportunity for India exists if we can formulate an agreement – the bilateral agreement with the United States, then with the European Union and the United Kingdom, then we already have some other agreements. We are also very close to free trade, in fact, if we do so.”

His comments come at a time when India is working to close the first tranche of a bilateral trade deal with the United States by September this year, as it accelerates negotiations with the European Union with its completion by the end of this year. It also works in negotiations with the UK to end the free commercial deal.
