Dr. Congo seeks to remove the immunity of the former president

The authorities in the Democratic Republic of the Congo are seeking to raise the immunity of former President Joseph Kabila from the prosecution after being accused of supporting the rebels in the east.

Justice Minister Constamba said on Wednesday that there is a “large group of documents, certificates and material facts” that link Kabila to the armed group M23.

M23 currently controls parts of the east of the country rich in minerals after making great progress earlier this year.

Capella, 53, did not comment on the accusations, but in the past it denied any connection to the rebels.

He led Dr. Kongo for 18 years, after he succeeded his father, Laurent, who was shot in 2001. Joseph Kabila was twenty -nine years old at the time.

After step down, he won the title “Senator for Life”, giving him legal immunity.

In order to pursue a legal issue, the military prosecutor of Dr. Congo asked the Senate to cancel this.
