The UK is in talks with France and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on whether you will learn about a Palestinian state at a United Nations conference in June.
But British Foreign Secretary David Lami said on Wednesday that the United Kingdom wanted to be recognized as part of the moves towards a two -state solution to the lengthy Israeli -Palestinian crisis, rather than a symbolic act.
His comments come after French President Emmanuel Macron said this month that France can use the United Nations Conference on recognition of a Palestinian state, as European and Arab powers are making efforts to find a sustainable solution to the crisis resulting from The war between Hamas and Israel.
The New York Conference was chaired by France and Saudi Arabia, which sought to establish a global alliance to push for the establishment of a Palestinian state alongside Israel.
Speaking to a committee in the House of Lords, the second chamber of parliament in the United Kingdom, Lami said that the work government prefers recognition of a Palestinian state as part of a movement towards a solution to the crisis.
“We will continue to talk to the partners about this, President Macron had a lot to say about it recently, along with the Saudis,” Lami said.
“It is unacceptable for any group of people to live without any situation longer than I was alive,” he said. “The only option is two states and we will continue to work with the partners … especially with France and we are heading towards their conference in New York, along with Saudi Arabia … to ensure that two cases are preserved.”
Lami also seemed to be careful.
“I realize that there are some of those who see this symbolic, and there are countries in Europe that have taken this step recently … Did they change a lot on the ground? The sad conclusion is that he did not, and so we always said that confession is not the end in itself, and two states is the end.”
Most members of the United Nations actually recognize the Palestinian state. Several European countriesIncluding Spain, Ireland and Norway, officially recognized the Palestinian state last year.
But two European Permanent members of the United Nations Security Council take a similar step that is a more important boost for the Palestinians.
However, diplomats say that the challenge is to determine when the recognition should be used more effectively as a financial lever point with both the Palestinians and Israel, and whether this is done without registration, condition, or when certain terms are met.
The government of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has repeatedly excluded any steps towards a two -state solution, or to make any concessions towards the Palestinians.
He was encouraged by Donald Trump, who is widely considered the most supportive American president, who called for the emptying of Gaza from the Palestinians, which the United States seized and turned into “Riviera in the Middle East.”
The Trump team helped mediate the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in January, according to which the militant group agreed to the free hostages in Gaza in exchange for the release of Palestinian prisoners from Israeli prisons and an increase in assistance in the besieged tape.
But the fragile truce collapsed last month and imposed Israel a A complete siege on Gaza His attack is renewed through the Palestinian pocket.
Western and Arab countries are fighting with how the crisis ended since the war in Gaza has arisen in the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023 on Israel, which killed 1,200 people.
The retaliation of Israel in Gaza has killed more than 52,000 people, according to Palestinian health officials, and reduced many lands to arid lands full of rubble.
