“Scott, please stop a moment to retreat, look at the way, and think very about whether you want to be responsible for enabling America’s descent FascismAnd the letter dated Wednesday says.

“Be brave. He defended what you know right and be a voice for the mind in the midst of this madness,” the letter says.

He argues that “a lot” of President Donald Trump’s actions, his second administration is unconstitutional and undermines the principles of democracy.

As of Friday, 140 members in Yale University of 1984 I signed the online message to Bessent, a member of this chapter. He is also a former assistant professor at the university, who taught economic history.

The signatories include lawyers, executives, journalists, theatrical writers, priest, university professors, farms and social workers.

The letter says to BESSENT that, as a pioneer in political science in Yale, he knows, “The three branches of the United States government aim to act as equal partners, and provide checks and balances on each other to prevent the type of power that is currently committing its executive branch.”

After that, Missive is granted a list of examples of what it says is the Trump administration’s efforts to “calm the authority acquired in the judicial and legislative branches … for their personal aggravation, wealth and power.”

The aforementioned examples include giving billionaire Elon Musk and “Diggling groups” wide access to the special data of millions of Americans; “Punitive attacks on independent media, universities, citizens, judges and other government employees just because they disagree with the administration;” And “illegal seizure and imprisonment for people in violation of our immigration laws and the legal procedures required by our constitution.”

Bessent said, in a statement to CNBC,:

“It is strange and sad that a group of people, most of them have never met them before, feel that they are standing in my life options because of the weak overlap for 40 years.

How brave of these people launched their campaign behind a keyboard instead of engaging in the realistic political process. They should look at home, practice some agencies, and leave behind their offices – as they did – to participate in the 2028 electoral cycle.

These are the same close progressors who sought to undermine President Trump at every turn. But to reformulate President Teddy Roosevelt, “It is not the critic who counts … credit belongs to the man in the square.”

President Trump is the man in the square. The American people – not these critics. Being part of the Trump administration and serving the American people is the honor of my life. “

Catherine Tigarden, a 1984 graduate, told CNBC that she sent a similar letter, also signed by his fellow members of the class, via American Post to Bessent in the Treasury in March, but she did not receive any response.

The new message, which added some details of the procedures conducted by the administration since March, has been published on the Facebook page in the chapter, where people can sign it.

Tigarden, a New York resident, said in 2023 after 30 years,

“I know that there are other people like me who felt somewhat despair about what was going on in our government,” she said.

The frequency of the letter is one that was sent in August 2017 to the Minister of Treasury at the time at the time Stephen Mnuchin Of more than 350 of his fellow members Yale category 1985.

That message from Mnuchin called for resignation, on the pretext that he had a “moral commitment” to do so after Trump blamed the violence in a white national gathering in Charlottesville, Virginia, not only for the organizers but also for counter -professionals. Manuchin refused this request.

The new message also indicates Trump Media and Technology GroupInvestment accounts that are preparing to move forward with strange tariff decisions. “

The message says: “Although the global economic chaos caused by this administration may have started at the highest alarm bells, the illegal method they do at the official work at home must be worrying to you as minister of the treasury.”

“The right -wing oath to support the constitution, as it manages the resources of the nation that is required to do everything in your power to stop the attacks of this unprecedented administration on our democracy.”

David Calic, one of the people who signed the message, said in an interview, that he did so because “I am really concerned about the due legal procedures and” other protection “in our constitution that is allocated through the president’s actions.”

“There are people inside the administration and without who should know better,” said Calick, the director of the Immigration Research Initiative, a research tank.

Calick, who did not know Pesin at Yale University, said the risks of Trump’s actions so far are “very real.”

“I think we see some of the measures that are starkly authoritarian, or, I must say, blatant tyranny, and I do not know to what extent can that go,” he said. “If people like us and (bessent) do not stand and say,” enough, “There is a real danger … from slipping to an authoritarian government.”

Teegarden, the graduate who organized the message, was also not known in Yale, but said that a number of people refused to sign the message “because they were concerned about how this affected their lives.”

“Many people are afraid of putting their name there because of revenge,” said Tigarden.

She said that others asked her why the message was not invited to resign.

“For me, this does not really solve the problem,” Tigarden said. “We need a rational person, who will speak, to be the voice of this mind.”

She hoped to make the Bessent message consider his role in the Trump administration, and retract what it deems violations of constitutional and institutional standards.

“Why is he selling? This was a kind of thinking about this,” said Tigarden.

“It is really about not legitimizing everything. It should be known better.”

“I do not know Scott personally, but I am ready to bet he does not want to live in Autocrate,” said Hank Kobland, another Yale graduate who signed.

“He knows that tyranny suffocates human rights and closes the tender and this takes improved life and makes life interesting and made a dynamic economy,” said Koblland, a resident of Indianapolis who runs a small technical company. “Ultimately, solid societies are from top to bottom impotence and failure.”

When he was asked what he wanted to achieve the message, “On the one hand, we are zero in a hurricane, and some classmates indicate their inability as a reason for not signing.”

“On the other hand, many of the important works in life are purely symbolic – the exchange of rings, the flying of science, or a funeral,” he said.

“We are doing these symbolic things to remind ourselves and others what we care about.”

Treasury Secretary

1500 Pennsylvania Street, northwest

Washington DC 20220

Dear Scott

The members below write in the Yale’s 84 row to urge you to review your role in facilitating the intended transformation of the Trump administration of our constitutional republic into an authoritarian state. As a pioneer in political science, you know that the three branches of the United States government aim to work as equal partners, and to provide checks and balances on each other to prevent the type of power that is committed at the present time.

Many examples. During the past three months, the Trump administration has sought strongly through executive orders and other means to rape the chosen authority in the judicial and legislative branches so that they can act without control, not for the benefit of the American people, but for their personal thinking, wealth and power. Many of their actions are unconstitutional and undermine the principles of our democracy, including:

  • The cancellation and the money that has already approved and allocated by Congress;
  • Dismantling the main federal agencies that serve, inform and protect the public;
  • ELON Musk Grant and I faced unlimited access and almost unlimited the special data of millions of American citizens, safe financial systems in the country, the authority to employ federal workers and shoot at each agency, including agencies that organize his own business;
  • Remove the general inspectors and other fraud and corruption screens throughout the government;
  • Punitive attacks on independent media, universities, citizens, judges and other government employees just because they disagree with the administration;
  • Increased global alliances that strengthened America’s interests all over the world for decades;
  • Illegal seizure and imprisonment of people in a violation of our immigration laws and the legal procedures required by our constitution;
  • Enriching their personal financial resources through flagrant conflicts of interests, such as the MEME currencies of Trumps and the accounts of the media and technology group in Trump, which are preparing to participate in making strange tariff decisions in management; and,
  • Raising a global economic crisis through irregular and irrational tariff policies and self -destructive commercial wars.

Although the global economic chaos caused by this administration may have led to the highest alarm bells, the illegal method in which they manages official works at home must be worrying to you as minister of the Treasury Department. The right -wing oath enables the constitution as the nation’s financial resources manage to do everything in your power to stop the attacks of this unprecedented administration on our democracy.

Scott, please stop a moment to retreat, look at the way a piece, and think very about whether you want to be responsible for enabling America’s descent to fascism. Dust for your old copy with old signs of Hannah Arendt’s The origins of inclusiveness From the days of your university studies. Remember yourself that when you read this text forty years ago, you thought that such a thing could never happen here. “We give you the benefit of doubt that you did not think,” Wow, will it not be great if you can reshape America to Autocrate! ”However, you are here, by helping and inciting illegal measures of an administration that seeks to destroy 250 years of American democracy.

We challenged our education in Yale to use light and truth, Lux et Veritas, to develop society, not the repression and lies that distinguish this current administration, which you are a main player. We invite you to re -embody these ideals of the years of your university studies and use your position to oppose and redirect this illegal, destructive and non -American administration before it is too late.

In the words of James Russell’s powerful hymn: “once to every man and nation, a moment comes to report … for the good or evil side … then the brave man chooses, and the coward stands aside.” Be brave. He defended what you know about the right and be a voice for the mind in the midst of this madness.

For God, For the countryAnd Liel.

sincerely,

Your Yale’s 84 colleagues:
