Russian President Vladimir Putin says he ordered his forces to “stop all military activity” in Ukraine, where he declared the “Easter truce” until the end of Sunday.
He said that a 30 -hour truce will continue until 22:00 GMT on Sunday (00:00 Moscow time), adding that the Russian forces should be ready to respond to “any possible violations.”
Ukraine President Volodimir Zelinski Putin was accused of trying to “play with human spirits” – but he did not say whether Ukraine had agreed to stop the fighting.
Zelinski said that Russian drones were discovered in the sky of Ukraine shortly before the armistice entered, which said Putin’s true position towards Easter and human life was.
Ukraine, Ukraine, Andrei Sibha said that Ukraine has already agreed to an American suggestion for a 30 -day ceasefire, as X wrote: “Putin has now made statements about his alleged preparation for the ceasefire. 30 hours instead of 30 days.”
“Unfortunately, we had a long history of his statements that did not match his actions. We know that his words cannot be trusted and we will look at the procedures, not the words.”
Putin announced the temporary truce at a meeting with the Chief of the General Staff, Valerie Gerasimov.
“On the basis of humanitarian considerations … the Russian side announces the Easter truce. I ask for all military activities for this period,” Putin told Gerasimov.
“We assume that Ukraine will follow our example. At the same time, our forces must be ready to repel possible violations of Indian and provocatives by the enemy, any aggressive measures.”
The Russian Ministry of Defense said that its forces will be committed to a ceasefire, provided that they are “respectable” by Ukraine.
This is not the first time that a sudden temporary stop of fighting has been announced – a previous attempt to cease fire during the Orthodox Christmas in January 2023 after both sides failed to agree on a proposal.

Russia launched a widespread invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022. It is estimated that hundreds of thousands of people – the vast majority of them – were killed or injured from all sides.
The United States was talking directly to Russia as part of its efforts to end the war, but it struggled to make great progress.
Last month, Moscow rejected a proposal for a full and unconditional ceasefire that the United States and Ukraine agreed.
US President Donald Trump warned on Friday that Washington was “passing through” mediation for more talks on ending the war in Ukraine unless there is rapid progress.
After Foreign Minister Marco Rubio, the United States would not “will not continue in this endeavor for weeks and successive months,” as “other priorities to focus on them were.”
“We need to determine very quickly now – and I am talking about the issue of days – whether it is possible or not,” he added.
“If it doesn’t happen, we will only continue.”
