The Council of Ministers for Economic Affairs, headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, agreed to develop, maintain and manage a national road to green access consisting of 4 lanes dominated by 06. This highway will extend 166.80 km from Mawlyngkhung near Shillong in Meghalaya to Panchgram near Silchar in Assam.
The project will be implemented on the status of hybrid installments at a total capital cost of 22,864 rupees.
Of the total length, it will be 144.80 km in Megagaya and 22.00 km in Asam.
The high -speed corridor in the proposed Greenfield aims to enhance the service level of traffic between Guwahati and Silchar. This will significantly improve communication with Tripura, Mizuram, Manipor and the Barack Valley area in Asam from the mainland and Joaati, which reduces the distance of travel and time. This development is expected to enhance logistical efficiency in the country.
The corridor will also enhance the communication between Asam and Mielyaya, which enhances economic development, including industrial growth in Migalaya. It will pass through the production areas of cement and coal, and it serves both patriotic and international tourists who arrive through Joaati Airport, Chilong Airport and Silachar Airport. The corridor will enhance tourism in the states.
The infrastructure project will enhance this communication between cities between Joaati, Shilung and Cellar. This will be crossed by Ri Bhoi, East Khasi Hills, West Jaintia Hills, East Jaintia Hills in Meghalaya, and Cachar District in Assam, which reduced the crowding over the current NH-06.
The project is in line with the main national plan of the PM GATI Shakti to develop the transport infrastructure.
The project alignment is integrated with the main transportation corridors, including NH-27, NH-106, NH-206 and NH-37, providing a smooth connection to Fahiyati, Shillong, Silchar, Diengpasoh, Ummulong, Phenamer, Khlieriat, Ratacherra, UMKIANG, and Kalain.
Upon completion, the Shillong-Silchar Corridor will play a major role in regional economic growth, which improves communication between Guwahati, Shillong, Silchar, Imphal, Aizawl and Agartala.
